Bizarre catches by Russian fisherman

Roman Fedortsov works as a commercial fisherman on a trawler out of the port city of Murmansk in the northwest part of Russia. He began photographing the bizarre catches his boat made and started posting the photos on social media.

He now has more than half a million followers on Instagram.

These strange-looking fish are out of this world. Behold…

Punk rocker from the deep

Seriously, love that hair!

Hook ‘em Horns?

This is a Texas longhorn cowfish. Just kidding. It’s simply a longhorn cowfish.

“Looks like Jurassic Park to me”

One commenter thought it was prehistoric. It’s actually a scabbardish and it is said to be a tasty fish. Certainly it’s a scary fish.

Sometimes known as the world’s ugliest fish

The blobfish has a striking resemblance to Carl Fredricksen in Pixar’s animated movie “Up.”

This is a lancetfish

A cross between a sailfish and a barracuda, or so it seems.

Mr. Bubbles with Tiny Bubbles

Or maybe Atlantic spiny lumpsuckers, who knows?

Old Yellow Eyes

Roman said the fish is like a cartoon dragon. He assures there was no Photoshop.

Twins of the Creature from the Black Lagoon

These two leatherfin lumpsuckers do have a green monster look to them.

Watch your fingers

If we had to guess, we’d say it’s a vampire fish.

“Atlantic wolf”

Roman jokes that whitening strips will not help this wolffish, whose front teeth are similar to that of a canine. Teeth wear out quickly and a new mouthful of teeth appear.

Top Ramen

A heaping helping of that famous noodle dish with a few delectable unknowns.

A wolffish zombie

Yep, that’s what it looks like, a wolffish zombie.

A freaky eyeball stares up at you

Well, we’re not sure what this is exactly. Roman did explain that sea urchins, a.k.a. sea hedgehogs, have eyes, but they are undeveloped and respond only to light.

Breaking in a new pair of dentures?

No, this wolffish was actually in the midst of dining on an isopod when it was rudely interrupted.

“What are you staring at?”

Another unidentified fish with odd features.

“My, what white teeth you have”

We believe it to be some sort of shark. A great white teeth shark, perhaps?

School is in session

Roman somehow displays a handful—or a school—of “Atlantic poacher.”

An odd fellow

Someone suggested that perhaps Roman discovered a new species.

Carrot and stick?

It does appear that way, but this toothy anglerfish features a luminescent organ used to lure prey in the dark.

An aqua Frisbee fish?

No, it’s the fish version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, or what Roman called a pinagor with a large hump.

We haven’t a clue

All we know is, it’s very colorful and very bizarre.

A dinosaur shrimp, perhaps?

This is one of 9,950 recognized species of amphipods, a crustacean found in almost all aquatic environments.

If it could scream, this is what it would sound like

A sea worm displays its pinchers.

How alien cows are milked

Someone identified it as a crinoid. “Elon Musk, bring me anything like that from Mars,” Roman quipped.

Like wings of an eagle

Whatever it is, we’re pretty sure it could put up a good fight for a fisherman catching it on rod and reel.

What the heck?

Roman asks, what do you see? A helment? Transformers? One commenter saw a sleeping pigeon, another a boiled chicken.

Shrimp cocktail, anyone?

This Bering shrimp isn’t exactly what seafood connoisseurs are used to.

From “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”

It’s got to be a baby kraken, right?

Threading the needle

The thread eel got its name thanks to its long and thin body.

Underwater sunflowers

Apparently, Roman also dives and catches interesting video of action underwater like this symphony of sun coral.

A fish with a little bit of everything

This pinagoras has odd body, odd fins, an odd whatchamacallit on its belly, odd pointy things on the rear bottom, odd mouth, and odd pimply things in the front.

Old Big Eyes

It’s a sea armadillo!

Rows and rows of teeth

Appears to be a frilled shark. Something to stay away from in the water.

A jelly ray?

Looks like some sort of gelatin.

Sea Anemone

An orange blob that looks like a mushroom ready for a kiss.
